Yellow Lantern Magnolia offers a rare twist on one of spring's most beloved flowering trees. Instead of the typical pinks and whites, this selection produces large, tulip-shaped blooms in soft creamy yellow with subtle hints of pink at the base. The flowers appear as the foliage begins to emerge, creating a layered display that feels both fresh and refined. Each bloom can reach impressive size, giving the tree a bold yet elegant presence. And with a light, lemony fragrance, it doesn't just look good—it adds another sensory dimension to the landscape.

This hybrid magnolia forms an upright, pyramidal to oval canopy. Its branching structure is strong and well-balanced, making it an excellent specimen tree or focal point. Unlike some magnolias that take years to flower heavily, Yellow Lantern Magnolia is known to begin blooming at a relatively young age. As the season progresses, dark green foliage fills in, creating a lush backdrop for the remainder of the growing season. Fall color tends toward soft yellow tones, allowing the tree to transition gently into dormancy.

Botanically derived from a cross between Magnolia acuminata var. subcordata and Magnolia × soulangeana 'Alexandrina', Yellow Lantern Magnolia combines cold hardiness with improved flower color and performance. Rated for cold hardiness in zones 4–8, it thrives in well-drained, organically rich soils and benefits from protection against strong winds and late spring frosts. Like most magnolias, it prefers to be left undisturbed once established due to its sensitive root system. For gardeners looking to introduce a rare yellow-flowering magnolia with fragrance, structure, and early-season impact, Yellow Lantern Magnolia is a truly luminous choice.
