Chinook Weeping Japanese Maple carries the colors of the Pacific Northwest in its veins. In spring, finely dissected laceleaf foliage unfurls in a deep reddish tone, immediately drawing the eye. As the season progresses, the leaves transition into warm orange with the faintest hint of greenreminiscent of the belly of a Chinook salmon shimmering in moving water. The layered color effect gives the canopy depth rather than flatness, creating subtle contrast even at peak summer. It's a tree that never quite sits still visually.
By autumn, Chinook Weeping Japanese Maple shifts again, finishing in glowing orange-pink tones that feel both soft and vibrant at the same time. The cascading, pendulous branches form a flowing mound that feels natural and sculptural without heavy pruning. Over time, it is expected to reach approximately 4 feet tall and 6 feet wide in about ten years, forming a graceful spread that anchors garden beds beautifully. Its refined size makes it ideal for focal plantings where texture and seasonal color progression matter most. Even in winter, the weeping framework maintains quiet architectural interest.
Botanically known as Acer palmatum dissectum 'Chinook' this laceleaf Japanese maple was discovered at Emerald C's Nursery in Oregon, giving it authentic regional roots. It thrives in Zones 5–8 and performs best in partial shade, especially in warmer climates. Like many dissectum varieties, it prefers well-drained soil and protection from harsh afternoon sun. If you're searching for a weeping Japanese maple with layered orange tones and Northwest character, Chinook Weeping Japanese Maple offers something truly distinctive.
