Ryugu Dwarf Upright Japanese Maple, also known as Dragon Palace Castle Japanese Maple, is a rare and highly ornamental dwarf selection treasured for its distinctive variegation and compact stature. Its tiny leaves are flecked with creamy white and soft pink, creating a luminous effect that sparkles against the green background of the foliage. This speckled variegation is considered stable and consistent year to year, making it a reliable standout among Japanese maples.
Growing only a few inches per year, Ryugu Dwarf Upright Japanese Maple matures into a dense, rounded form about 4–6 feet tall and wide, though many specimens remain even smaller with age. In spring, new growth may show a subtle orange-green flush before settling into green leaves peppered with variegation. Come autumn, the foliage shifts into glowing orange-red, bringing a final burst of fiery color before leaf drop.
Its miniature growth and refined detail make Ryugu Dwarf Upright Japanese Maple an exceptional choice for rock gardens, fairy gardens, railroad gardens, conifer beds, or small landscapes where space is limited. Whether as a specimen near a patio or a jewel-like accent in the garden, this maple lives up to its name, bringing elegance and sophistication worthy of a palace.
