Baldsmith Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple is one of those trees that makes people stop mid-step. In early spring, its finely dissected lace leaves emerge in brilliant pink to orange-red tones layered over soft yellow-green undertones. The effect is almost watercolor-likelight, airy, and romantic. As the leaves expand, the colors mingle, often giving the canopy an overall orange glow. It's a softer red than many A. p. dissectum varieties, but arguably more luminous.
By summer, the foliage transitions into a fresh green canopy accented by bright flushes of pink to red new growth. This constant contrast keeps the tree visually active rather than static. Baldsmith Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple forms a low, evenly rounded, umbrella-like silhouette with pendulous branches that cascade gently toward the ground. Over time, it is expected to reach approximately 4–6 feet tall and 5–8 feet wide, creating a dense, balanced mound of finely textured foliage. In autumn, the show continues with deep yellows blending into orange and occasional red highlights.
Botanically known as Acer palmatum dissectum 'Baldsmith' this cultivar is prized for its multicolor transitions and refined weeping habit. Rated to be cold hardy in zones 5–9, it performs best with some afternoon protection in hotter climates to preserve its spring vibrancy. The lacy foliage texture pairs beautifully with deeper red or solid green maples for contrast. If you're seeking a dwarf weeping Japanese maple with dynamic seasonal color and an elegant cascading form, Baldsmith Dwarf Weeping Japanese Maple delivers layered beauty from spring through fall.
