FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Coral Bells looks like it emerged from an enchanted forest and decided the perennial border was a comfortable place to settle down. Its finely cut, lace-like foliage begins the season in glowing rosy copper, then gradually gathers new layers of violet, silver, purple, and wine-like color as the months unfold. The leaves have the appearance of miniature dragon wings, delicate enough to seem magical yet substantial enough to deliver the dependable garden presence expected from coral bells. As spring gives way to summer and eventually fall, the color story keeps evolving like tiny seasonal spell.
The compact, densely foliated mound brings a jewel-box quality to the garden, especially when surrounded by contrasting colored plants. FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Coral Bells creates a nicely scaled presence for the front of perennial borders, woodland-inspired plantings, pathways, or other carefully layered garden spaces. Slender flower stems rise above the foliage in late spring and early summer, carrying delicate white flowers that add an airy touch to the richly colored mound. The blooms are charming, but the foliage is the dragon performing the spell.
Rhodonite is a rose-to-pink gemstone often associated with balance and emotional strength, making it an ideal namesake for a plant that gracefully balances copper warmth, rosy blush, and cool violet and purple tones. Rhodonite is also part of the FYRE WING™ series' original "Seven of the Lace Crown," a collection born from a rare lace-leaf breeding breakthrough and wrapped in a dragon-inspired mythology. Hardy in USDA Zones 4–9, it performs in full sun to part shade, with afternoon protection necessary in hotter climates. If you want a coral bells that isn't afraid to change as the seasons progress FYRE WING™ Rhodonite Coral Bells is ready to embolden the landscape.

FYRE WING™ RHODONITE CORAL BELLS Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
- Recommended Soil:
- Grow in organically rich, moderately well-drained garden soil that retains useful moisture without becoming soggy.
- Improve poor or compacted soil with compost or other organic matter to support root growth and better soil structure.
- Keep the crown at or slightly above the surrounding soil level to promote good crown health.
- Avoid locations where heavy soil remains saturated, especially through winter.
- Sun Exposure:
- Full sun to part shade is suitable, depending on local climate and summer heat.
- Cooler climates can provide more sunlight, while hot regions benefit from afternoon shade or filtered light.
- Morning sun with afternoon protection can help preserve the rich rose, copper, violet, and purple foliage.
- Use 'Rhodonite' along perennial borders, woodland edges, garden paths, and other locations where colorful foliage can shine.
- Irrigation Needs:
- Water deeply and consistently during the first growing season while the root system becomes established.
- Once established, water thoroughly when the soil begins to dry and avoid keeping the root zone constantly saturated.
- Established plants can tolerate short periods of moderate dryness, but prolonged drought may reduce vigor and foliage quality.
- Provide supplemental irrigation during extended heat, drought, or unusually dry weather.
- Feeding & Nutrients:
- Apply compost around the root zone in spring to provide gentle organic nutrition and improve soil health.
- A balanced slow-release perennial fertilizer can be applied in spring as new growth becomes active.
- Avoid excessive fertilizer, which can encourage soft growth and detract from the plant's compact mounding habit.
- Keep concentrated fertilizer away from the crown and water thoroughly after granular applications.
- Pruning & Maintenance:
- Remove tired, damaged, or winter-affected leaves in early spring as fresh foliage begins emerging.
- Cut spent flower stems near their base after flowering to maintain a tidy, foliage-focused mound.
- Thin individual damaged leaves throughout the growing season when necessary to keep the plant looking polished.
- Apply a light organic mulch around the root zone while keeping mulch away from the crown itself.

Interesting Notes About FYRE WING™ RHODONITE CORAL BELLS
- A Gemstone With a Rosy Reputation: Rhodonite is a manganese-rich mineral best known for its pink to rose-red coloration, often marked by contrasting dark veins. That dramatic combination makes the gemstone an unusually good namesake for foliage that layers rosy, copper, violet, and purple tones.
- Balance Is Her Superpower: Terra Nova's FYRE WING™ lore associates 'Rhodonite' with balance, and the plant delivers that idea visually through its mixture of warm copper and rose tones alongside cooler violet and purple shades. It is essentially a tiny color diplomat living in the perennial border.
- The Lace Crown Was Not Imaginary: The fantastical dragon-wing appearance has a very real horticultural origin. FYRE WING™ arose from a rare leaf mutation that was recognized, propagated, and developed through breeding and selection until the unusually divided foliage became a stable series of distinctive plants.
- She Is the Rose-Toned Pioneer: 'Rhodonite' represents the first reliably expressed rose-toned form of the FYRE WING™ lace-leaf trait. Within the original seven cultivars, it occupies the collection's twilight-colored territory between warm blushes and increasingly deep autumnal purples.
- The Seven Guard the Same Crown: 'Rhodonite' is one of "The Seven of the Lace Crown," alongside 'Amber,' 'Heliodor,' 'Hematite,' 'Jadeite,' 'Jet,' and 'Spinel.' Each cultivar was given a gemstone identity and a distinct dragon-inspired character, turning the collection into a living fantasy of foliage, color, and texture.
