Buy Perkins Pink American Yellowwood online. This medium to large growing tree gets its name due to the heartwood of the tree containing a yellow dye. This particular cultivar is rare, as it produces light pink, extremely fragrant flowers in late spring that hang in clusters similar to Wisteria. These flowers produce a bean-like pod in late summer to autumn. The leaves emerge yellowish green, turning to bright green in summer, and then back to shades of yellow in the fall. The common name is derived from where it was discovered in the 1930's at the Perkins Institute for the Blind in Massachusetts.
