Galaxy White Lily of the Nile brings celestial drama to the perennial garden, producing rounded clusters of pure white, star-shaped flowers that hover above its graceful mound of strap-like foliage. Blooming from midsummer into late summer, the flowers arrive on sturdy, upright stems and create an eye-catching focal point. The crisp white color is especially striking against darker foliage and rich green garden backdrops. With its bold flower clusters and clean, architectural form, this Agapanthus is equally at home in cottage gardens, perennial borders, and pollinator-friendly landscapes. Galaxy White Lily of the Nile earns its bragging rights: unlike many Lily of the Nile selections that prefer milder climates, this Walters Gardens introduction has demonstrated impressive winter hardiness through USDA Zones 6–10. Its deciduous nature allows the plant to retreat underground during winter, then return for another season of galactic flowers. Give it plenty of sunshine and consistent moisture, and it can develop into a substantial clump. Once established, it combines strong performance with a starry personality, making it an excellent choice when you want maximum floral impact with minimum garden fuss. Individual trumpet-shaped blooms gather into large, rounded flower heads that create a visual effect somewhat reminiscent of ornamental onion, but with a later summer encore. Galaxy White Lily of the Nile also makes an excellent cut flower, bringing those luminous white globes indoors for arrangements that demand a second look. Bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds find the flowers appealing, adding to its already impressive display. If you're searching for a cold-hardy Lily of the Nile, white flowering perennial, summer-blooming focal plant, or standout cut flower for a sunny garden, Galaxy White Lily of the Nile will send you to the stars.

GALAXY WHITE LILY OF THE NILE Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
- Recommended Soil:
- Choose fertile, well-drained soil that holds enough moisture to support vigorous summer flowering without becoming waterlogged.
- A moderately rich garden soil can encourage stronger growth and more impressive flower production.
- Neutral to slightly acidic soil is generally suitable for healthy Lily of the Nile growth.
- Avoid consistently soggy ground, particularly during dormant winter conditions.
- Sun Exposure:
- Full sun is the preferred exposure for Galaxy White and generally produces the strongest flowering display.
- A location receiving more than six hours of direct sunlight is ideal for abundant blooms.
- Good air circulation around the foliage can help maintain a healthy, attractive clump.
- In warmer climates, some protection from especially intense afternoon conditions can be beneficial if soil moisture is difficult to maintain.
- Irrigation Needs:
- Provide consistent moisture during active spring and summer growth, particularly while flower stalks are developing.
- Water deeply enough to encourage thorough root-zone moisture rather than relying on frequent, shallow watering.
- Established plants can tolerate periods of drier conditions, but flowering is typically strongest when moisture is more consistent.
- Reduce unnecessary winter moisture while the plant is dormant and avoid poorly drained locations.
- Feeding & Nutrients:
- Feed in spring as new growth begins to support vigorous foliage and developing flower stalks.
- A balanced perennial fertilizer or a modest application of compost can provide useful nutrients during active growth.
- A second light feeding later in the growing season may support continued performance where soils are lean.
- Avoid excessive nitrogen, which can encourage foliage at the expense of flowering.
- Pruning & Maintenance:
- Remove spent flower stalks after blooming if you prefer a tidier appearance, or leave them temporarily for added winter interest.
- Allow foliage to naturally die back as Galaxy White enters winter dormancy rather than forcing an early cleanup.
- Apply a protective winter mulch in colder areas, particularly during the first few winters after planting.
- Established clumps can eventually be divided to rejuvenate or redistribute plants, but patented cultivars must not be propagated for unauthorized sale.

Interesting Notes About GALAXY WHITE LILY OF THE NILE
- Born From a Botanical Blind Date: Galaxy White originated from a controlled cross between the unpatented 'Old Wayside Gardens Clone' as the seed parent and 'Kingston Blue' as the pollen parent. Breeder Hans A. Hansen selected the standout seedling in 2012 during trials in Zeeland, Michigan.
- Its Patent Has a Birthday: Galaxy White received U.S. Plant Patent PP31431 on February 4, 2020. The patented selection was developed specifically for a combination of winter hardiness, compact habit, clean foliage, and a long succession of white flowers.
- That Name Is a Greek Love Story: The genus name Agapanthus comes from Greek words associated with "love" and "flower," making Lily of the Nile's botanical name roughly a poetic nod to the idea of a love flower. The plant itself, however, is native to southern Africanot the Nile region.
- White Isn't Its Only Talent: Galaxy White belongs to a genus celebrated for flowers in shades ranging from deep blue and violet to white. The Galaxy Collection was selected in part to bring the traditionally warm-climate Lily of the Nile into colder gardens with improved winter performance.
- A Pretty Face With a Caution Label: Agapanthus foliage and other plant tissues can contain irritating compounds, and ingestion can cause problems for people and pets. Gardeners with sensitive skin should consider gloves when handling the plant, while curious pets and children should not be allowed to chew or consume it.
