DreamScape® Hydrangea is a summer cloud painted in shades of ruby and rose. Its impressive 8-10 inch mophead flowers open in a rich, rosy pink and gradually age to a softer parchment pink providing a beautiful progression of color. The blooms appear in summer and are held up on strong stems that keep them aloft through wind and rain. Dark green foliage forms a full backdrop, making every flower stand out like a rosy lantern among the forest. DreamScape® Hydrangea is one of the most generous hydrangeas on the market, producing two to three times more blooms per season than other smooth hydrangeas. It forms a dense and rounded shape, and when the flowers begin their transition from ruby pink to a soft pink they take on an entirely new charm. DreamScape® Hydrangea is hardy across USDA Zones 3–8, performs in full sun to part shade, and develops clean, lush foliage with good disease resistance. Consistently moist and well-drained soil will help keep this native smooth hydrangea thriving, particularly during hot summer weather. The flowers are profuse and excellent for cutting, so you can bring a little of that summer magic indoors while still having plenty to enjoy in the garden.

DREAMSCAPE® HYDRANGEA Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
- Recommended Soil:
- Grow DreamScape® in fertile, well-drained soil enriched with organic matter.
- Moisture-retentive loam is especially helpful during summer flowering.
- Acidic to neutral soil is suitable, although flower color does not depend on soil pH.
- Avoid locations where water remains consistently saturated around the roots.
- Sun Exposure:
- DreamScape® performs well in full sun to part shade.
- In warmer regions, afternoon shade can help protect foliage during intense summer heat.
- More sunlight can encourage abundant flowering when adequate moisture is available.
- Morning sun with filtered afternoon light is an excellent option in hot climates.
- Irrigation Needs:
- Provide regular, deep watering during the first growing seasons as the root system establishes.
- Maintain consistent soil moisture during flowering and periods of summer heat.
- Established plants appreciate supplemental irrigation during extended dry spells.
- Apply organic mulch around the root zone to help conserve moisture and moderate soil temperatures.
- Feeding & Nutrients:
- Rich soil with good organic matter provides a strong nutritional foundation.
- Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in spring as new growth begins if additional nutrition is needed.
- Avoid excessive fertilizer, particularly high nitrogen, which can encourage foliage at the expense of flowering.
- A soil test can help determine whether specific nutrients or pH adjustments are necessary.
- Pruning & Maintenance:
- DreamScape® flowers on new wood, so prune in late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
- Remove weak, damaged, or crossing stems while maintaining the naturally rounded form.
- Light annual pruning can encourage sturdy new growth and abundant flowering.
- Deadheading is optional; aging flowers can be left on the plant for their parchment-pink appearance or cut for arrangements.

Interesting Notes About DREAMSCAPE® HYDRANGEA
- A New Chapter in Pink: DreamScape® was developed as part of the same breeding project that produced FlowerFull® Smooth Hydrangea, but was selected for its distinctive ruby-pink flowers and strong landscape performance.
- A Native Garden Star: Smooth hydrangea is a North American native species, making DreamScape® an appealing cultivated selection for gardeners interested in incorporating native plant heritage into ornamental landscapes.
- Color Without the pH Puzzle: Unlike bigleaf hydrangeas, the pink flower color of smooth hydrangea does not change based on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline, so you don't need to chase flower color with soil amendments.
- Built for Rainy Days: DreamScape® was selected for strong stems that resist lodging, helping its large flower heads remain upright when summer storms send wind and rain across the garden.
- A Breeder's Dream: The cultivar 'BAICZ10' was developed by Bailey Nurseries, with plant patent documentation identifying David Charles Zlesak and Gail Katherine Soens among the inventors.
