When FYRE WING™ Heliodor Coral Bells emerges from its winter slumber, its ready to turn up the heat. New leaves emerge with a warm orange blush before transforming into brilliant lime-green foliage, creating a changing display from spring into summer. The leaves are deeply cut and frilled, giving this coral bells a lace-like texture that makes ordinary foliage look positively underdressed. Its dense, rounded habit creates a plush mound of color that works beautifully along woodland paths, garden edges, and partially shaded borders. Expect this perennial to bring a bright, fun personality wherever it grows.
The finely divided foliage of FYRE WING™ Heliodor Coral Bells catches light from every angle, making it especially effective where filtered sunlight can illuminate its chartreuse-green leaves getting sun burned. Tiny white flowers rise above the foliage in late spring and early summer, adding a delicate finishing touch. Pair its glowing foliage with deep green ferns, blue-green hostas, dark-leaved coral bells for a delicious contrast of color and texture

FYRE WING™ HELIODOR CORAL BELLS Homeowner Growing & Maintenance Tips
- Recommended Soil:
- Choose organically rich, moderately well-drained garden soil that retains some moisture without becoming soggy.
- Incorporate compost or other organic matter into poor soil to improve structure, fertility, and drainage.
- Coral bells perform best when the crown remains at or slightly above the surrounding soil level.
- Avoid persistently wet locations, especially during winter, because overly saturated soil can encourage crown and root problems.
- Sun Exposure:
- Part shade is ideal for maintaining the brightest lime-green foliage and protecting the plant from excessive heat.
- Bright morning light or filtered sunlight can encourage excellent foliage color and strong growth.
- Provide protection from intense afternoon sun, particularly in hot summer climates.
- Shade gardens, woodland borders, garden paths, and the front of perennial beds are excellent locations.
- Irrigation Needs:
- Water deeply and consistently while newly established, allowing the root system to develop.
- Once established, water when the soil begins to dry rather than keeping the planting constantly saturated.
- During hot, dry weather, monitor the foliage for signs of drought stress and provide supplemental irrigation as needed.
- Good drainage is essential; established coral bells generally tolerate moderate dryness better than prolonged wet soil.
- Feeding & Nutrients:
- Top-dress with compost in spring to provide a gentle source of organic nutrients.
- A balanced, slow-release perennial fertilizer can be applied in spring when active growth begins.
- Avoid excessive fertilizer, which can encourage soft growth rather than a compact, attractive mound.
- Keep concentrated fertilizer away from the crown and water thoroughly after applying granular products.
- Pruning & Maintenance:
- Remove weathered or winter-damaged foliage in early spring as fresh leaves begin emerging from the center.
- Trim spent flower stems after flowering to keep the plant looking tidy and focused on its attractive foliage.
- Remove individual damaged or discolored leaves throughout the growing season as needed.
- Apply a light organic mulch around the root zone while keeping mulch away from the crown itself.

Interesting Notes About FYRE WING™ HELIODOR CORAL BELLS
- A Mutation Started the Adventure: FYRE WING™ began with an unusual mutation discovered on 'Delta Dawn' coral bells in 2021. Instead of discarding the strange-looking plant, Terra Nova's breeders grew it out and recognized its potential to transform the foliage shape found in coral bells.
- Science Met Traditional Breeding: The FYRE WING™ development program combined conventional breeding with advanced techniques including tetraploidy and embryo rescue. The result was the distinctive deeply cut, lace-like foliage that gives the series its signature "wing" effect.
- Heliodor Has Gemstone Credentials: The name Heliodor comes from a golden-yellow variety of beryl, a gemstone whose name is associated with the sun. That makes the cultivar's luminous lime foliage and warm-toned emerging leaves a particularly fitting botanical namesake.
- One Crown, Seven Treasures: 'Heliodor' belongs to the original seven FYRE WING™ introductions known as "The Seven of the Lace Crown." The collection also includes 'Amber,' 'Hematite,' 'Jadeite,' 'Jet,' 'Rhodonite,' and 'Spinel,' with each cultivar inspired by a different gemstone.
- Coral Bells Have a Family Tree: Coral bells belong to the Saxifragaceae family, which also includes familiar garden plants such as foamflower and bergenia. Within that family, the genus Heuchera has become especially prized by gardeners for its remarkable range of foliage colors and textures.
