• Trippy Has Some Serious Pedigree: Trippy Pink® is part of the First Editions® collection, with the cultivar officially known as Buddleia davidii 'Bailbudone'. Its U.S. Plant Patent, PP36,709, was granted in 2025.
• A Georgia-Born Original: The breeding work behind 'Bailbudone' took place in Winterville, Georgia, where inventors Justin Schulze, David Jonathan Roberts, and Oren McBee developed the selection through a controlled breeding program.
• One Parent Is Known—The Other Kept a Secret: 'Bailbudone' originated from open-pollinated seed collected from 'Boscranz', but because the pollination was open, the male parent is unknown. Plant breeding occasionally comes with a little mystery.
• Selected From a Crowd: The original 'Bailbudone' plant was selected from seedlings in 2020 because of its distinctive combination of compact, uniform growth, vibrant pink flower panicles, and rounded-to-upright habit. In other words, this particular Trippy stood out from the crowd.
